406 MHz ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitters) for Sale

Most of the general aviation aircraft in the U.S. carry Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT) which are emergency transmitters that transmit a distress signal in the event of aircraft accident. The transmission of signal is on 121.5, 243.0-megahertz frequencies but for newer ELTs, its 406 MHz. After the 1972 loss of U.S. Representative Hale Boggs and Nick Begich in Alaska, a mandate has been created to require ELTs to be installed in almost all U.S. registered civil aircrafts. A new requirement has been created to replace the 121.5 MHz ELT (TSO C-91a ) by 406 MHZ ELT (TSO C126 i). There were reports in the past that the 121.5 MHZ has created false signals as its distress signal could only be detected by ground-based receivers such as local airport facilities and air traffic control facilities. On the other hand, the new 406 MHz ELT transmits a more accurate and near-instantaneous emergency signal by utilizing digital technology and it activates 81-83 percent of the time. This results in enabling the search and rescue personnel to have critical information on a aircraft in a timely manner.
